Boarding Time: 6:00pm
Island Queen Cruise, 9 Bay Street, Parry Sound, ON P2A 1S4

He blew us away when he took the stage with Blue Rodeo in June. And now Marshall Dane is all set to cruise through Parry Sound once again! In support of the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation, Get Off The Bus Concerts is pleased to bring Marshall Dane and special guest Paul Lagendyk with Sean Cotton on Saturday, September 9 for a Country Cruise with Island Queen Cruise in Parry Sound. Local craft beer will be available to be purchased.

ABOUT MARSHALL DANE

Born in St. Catharines, Marshall grazed on a rich fix of music, from the country sounds of his preacher Dad who taught him to play “The Farmer’s Song” on guitar to his Mom, who played piano in the evenings for his family of four sisters and two brothers. Marshall admits that his parents’ spiritual upbringing permeates his songs with themes of love, home and kindness.

Similar to Tim McGraw’s “Humble and Kind”, you will find that kindred message within his songs, his day to day life and the relationships he has with his many fans.

These values drove his 7 trips with Adventure Canada, travelling to the Arctic thru the Northwest Passage, Greenland, Labrador; while performing for some very esteemed guests: David Suzuki, film maker John Huston, Stuart McLean, Alex Trebek and key members of the Canadian Geographical Society, to name a few. Yet, Marshall will tell you that some of his more memorable Arctic memories were made while playing for the citizens of small Inuit communities.

For five years in a row, Marshall has been nominated for Male Artist of the Year at the CMAO Awards, alongside artists who have major label backing and riding recent hit singles. Why? Sheer fan power it is Marshall’s fans who have consistently voted him into the top level. The fans don’t need a chart number to influence their loyalty he’s a star to them, and that’s the real end game. They hear it. They feel it.

Whether it’s a large scale festival stage, the CNE, one of the many CCMA Country Music Week performances or an intimate club, Marshall’s live show is second to none. He is an artist that always connects with his audience and his energy and passion for performing makes his shows impossible to forget. “I love to write songs and I love recording them, but when I step out on a stage in front of a packed house, that’s where the fire starts for me.”

If you haven’t already, discover why his fans will tell you that Marshall Dane is a “must see” and most importantly, “must hear.”

ABOUT PAUL LAGENDYK

Growing up in the Oro/Medonte area of central Ontario Paul was very much country. After being to countless kitchen parties and numerous bluegrass and country festivals old time country was infused into him.

George Jones, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson were staples in the house. Seldom Scene, Bill Munroe and Ralph Stanely were his bluegrass mentors.

Always craving to see what was over the next hill, Paul moved out to Calgary and travelled around the west in the “oil patch”. Back in Ontario now for 14 yrs he decided to release his debut CD “Shiny Rails to Nowhere.” and “Canadian Country” ep. All the characters he’s met and places he’s been as well as his old time roots has shaped his new found love for writing country music.

Paul has played for over 300 people at his CD release party and The Hard Rock cafe (Toronto) in June 2015, The Huntsville Downtown street party in July 2015, 2016 and Beerfest in Huntsville. Also his songs placed in the top 200 in the country in the CBC searchlight competition (2 years in a row).

Glenn Miller Orchestra

Tuesday, September 12, 2017
Show Time: 7pm
The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center, 1051 Main Street, The Villages, FL.

BUY TICKETS

The first Glenn Miller Orchestra did not make it at all. It was a total and absolute economic failure. But Glenn knew what he wanted, held to that dedication and relentlessly worked to succeed. He launched his second band- the one that lives on today- in March of 1938. The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been a “hit” ever since.

The legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930’s and 40’s. A matchless string of hit records, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power at theatres, hotels and dance pavilion, built and sustained the momentum of popularity.

Glenn disbanded his musical organization in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the Army. There, he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band. It went to Europe to entertain servicemen performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15, 1944, Major Miller took off in a single engine plane from Europe to precede his band to France, disappearing over the English Channel, never to be seen again. The army declared him officially dead a year later.

With the release of the major motion movie The Glenn Miller Story featuring Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson in 1954, interest and popular demand led the Miller Estate to authorize the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra. On June 6, 1956, and under the direction of drummer Ray McKinley who had become the unofficial leader of the Army Air Force Band after Glenn’s disappearance, the reformed Glenn Miller Orchestra performed its first concert and has been on the road ever since. Other leaders have followed Ray including clarinetists Buddy Defranco and Peanuts Hucko, trombonists Buddy Morrow, Jimmy Henderson, Larry O’Brien and Gary Tole, and tenor saxophonist Dick Gerhart. Since January 2012, vocalist Nick Hilscher leads the band.

Today, the 18 member ensemble continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. Additionally, it also plays some more modem selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound.

Just as it was in Glenn’s day, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought after big band in the world.
